Our History
Connections is a non-profit organization founded in 2003, realizing the longtime dream
of its founders. In a sense Connections was only a formality since even before
Connections existed, those involved in its formation were teaching and working to promote
the same things that Connections now does.
Our Inspiration
We started
Connections because we feel strongly about families, about learning, and about the
process of
learning through experiences.
Family is the closest thing around us. It should be our support system, our safe haven, and
provide our closest friends. We understand that not all families are like that. But we believe that
they can be.
We recognize that God has given us all that we have and yearns for all of us to learn and grow
and be the best we can be. We believe that He gives us specific experiences in our lives to teach us.
Identifying the methods He uses to teach us helps us learn faster and with greater results. After all,
His are the best methods. That is why our programs are principle-centered and activity-based.
Our Belief
Functional families, ideally consisting of a man, a woman and
generally children, are essential to an enduring and well adjusted society.
A person's basic view of the world is greatly affected by their family.
Because of this, a family has the power to provide the best environment any individual can have
to develop character & confidence, learn values, be involved
in meaningful relationships and be guided through an education.
The technical and social changes of recent years are enticing families to move away from this
basic role of training and nurturing. Because of these trends pulling the family down we, at Connections,
are working to provide useful information and resources for all fundamental areas of life so anyone,
especially families, who have a need or a desire to
improve and grow can easily and quickly find the help that they need.
Our Method
In order to reach each family and each family member we use a variety of learning settings. We have learning sessions
for individuals and couples. We have clubs and adventures for kids. We do youth programs as well as programs
for individual families or reunions. We are working on a website full of resources for everyone. So no matter where
you fit in a family we have useful, hands-on, life-changing information for you.
In all of our programs we present and discuss principles through interactive experiences and activities. After which the group
simply discusses and evaluate what occurred to better understand the application of the principles
seen in the activity. As principles are identified within an activity it allows a person to recognize
how those principles affect actions and govern other outcomes in daily life. They are then better able
to implement the principle in their life.
This process is called
experiential education.
To keep up with the latest advances in this learning
method, we are a member of two of this industry's trade associations - the Association for
Experiential Education (AEE) and the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT).
Our Hope
We hope people will understand and learn the process of identifying principles and applying them
correctly in their lives. This is the process of change, of growth, of progress and of lasting
happiness. We hope people recognize the value of all experience in the process of learning and
then grow from what they learn.
We want people to know that there are amazing benefits of living according to principles and that
those benefits are worth every effort.
We would love you to join us at any of our fun-filled, thought provoking programs. We invite you
to search through our web-site and use the resources you find here or share some idea that
have helped you. We hope you will keep trying to apply
the principles you discover and then watch patiently as you see the affect of your efforts unfold.
